On Saturday 26 April, Vault Games Brisbane ran a Win-A-Case* Event for Jump to Lightspeed. Normally we wouldn’t publish a write up but given how close we are to a local Planetary Qualifier event, and the competitive nature of the event, we thought it would be a good idea to let you know who won the event, and what decks were represented.

The Decks and Standings

Let’s kick things off with the final standings of the event, and what decks were represented.

# Player Leader Base Points W L D OGW % OMW % GW % Match Count

9 Josh Parsons Leia Organa, Alliance General Lake Country 3 1 3 0 48.61% 50.00% 40.00% 4
10 Rachael Solomon Chewbacca, Walking Carpet Yellow 3 1 3 0 47.50% 47.92% 33.33% 4
11 Cayliss Henley Cad Bane, He Who Needs No Introduction Colossus 3 1 3 0 48.89% 45.83% 33.33% 4
12 Brian Evans Boba Fett, Any Methods Necessary Yellow 0 0 4 0 63.54% 66.67% 33.33% 4

As you can see above, each of the twelve decks present had a unique leader, no doubt a result of the suspension of Jango Fett, Concealing the Conspiracy (TWI#016), Triple Dark Raid (SHD#194), and DJ, Blatant Thief (SHD#213) just two weeks prior. Despite the range of unique leaders across all players, there was an obvious outstander in the Base category.

Five of the twelve decks included the vigilance powerhouse of Colossus (JTL#021). The brews are still varied as players find where to go within the new Jango-less meta, but it would seem that Colossus’ extra health is far outweighing the reduced opening hand-size. It would not be surprising to see the base firmly settle itself into the ongoing meta moving forward.

The Top Two Decks

Onto the top two decks that duked it out for the winning spot at the event.

The winning deck of Admiral Piett + Colossus piloted by Lucas won the final matchup two games to one. The heavy focus on the space arena, as well as the use of Doctor Pershing, Experimenting with Life (SHD#028) to mitigate the lower starting hand-size meant that Lucas could weather the aggressive storm of damage coming from Peter’s Sabine deck (see below) while also dealing plenty of unanswered damage to the opponent’s base.

Adding in Superlaser Technician (SOR#083), Resupply Carrier (JTL#119), Arquitens Assault Cruiser (SHD#122), and Piett’s own leader action, there’s plenty of opportunities to expand your resources and play the more powerful and expensive units in the deck much earlier than intended.

On the flip side of the winning deck, it’s refreshing to see a combo from the original release still able to hold its own in the new meta, despite not getting the final win in the event. Peter’s Sabine + ECL combo is an aggressive deck that seems to add two or three new cards every set. There’s not a lot to break down here. Peter’s deck works by just putting down a new threat or two every turn and attacking into advantageous unit matchups or the opponents base. Every play just puts a clock on the game and it’s up to the opponent to decide if it’s worth removing the threat now, or risking the extra damage to build the game plan.

Ultimately, it was the extra health from Colossus that gave Lucas the time he needed in game three to get the win, and it will be interesting to see how far a classic aggro Sabine deck can go in the upcoming competitive events.
