One Shot Adventures at Vault Games
Once a month Vault Games staff run RPG one shots within the store! A one shot adventure is a short game usually running from 3 - 4 hours covering a fully encapsulated adventure with a beginning and an end. Often game masters will have pregenerated characters for adventurers to choose from, and it's a great way to dip your toe into learning how to play a system! With character creation pre-done, you can simply settle in and enjoy the adventure unfolding before you. Open to adventurers both new and old, with games taking place in both the Dungeons and Dragons universe and many of the TTRPG’s offered within the store (such as the Alien RPG, Pathfinder, Cult of Cthulu and more!) there is a one shot waiting for anyone!
Initially I had been resistant to the idea that playing in a oneshot would be helpful - my favourite part of games is designing my character and creating their internal drive and motivations - but I find that one shots giving you the reigns of someone (who you might not have made yourself) is quite freeing, allowing you to focus on the flow and pacing of a game, and whether the system is one that personally gels with how you enjoy playing. Plus, oneshots are guaranteed to be completed in a single sitting, giving a bite sized taste of what exploration, combat and roleplaying can be in this world! I’ve really come around on the necessity of a one shot, and actively look forward to them, and run them myself!

Finding Community is Key!
One of the first steps to adventure is finding a party to adventure with! Now whether this means you will step forward and be heading the game, or finding a party in the wild to join, TTRPG’s run on community! While solo adventure games do exist, this article is focussing on the more typical play that involves a Game Master/Dungeon Master who heads the adventure, and the players who provide characters (typically heroes) who journey through the world!
Thankfully, Vault Games has some options! We have both in person and online opportunities to connect, with our RPG nights every Wednesday, where tables are reserved for RPG players to get playing! You can jump on our discord server to find players actively seeking games. Our community has a tonne of different games in different genres and systems so there's one to suit every taste and gaming style.
