It's time for the much anticipated yearly Vault Games Game Wrap Up of 2024 and what a year it was! From the soaring highs of Sky Team to the dungeon crawling depths of Clank! Legacy, we cover all games great (like, 8 players+) and small (party games count too!) on the list! And for this list, we’ve called in the reinforcements - the team have come together and listed a few of their favourite games from the past year just for you! Tune in for gaming opinions by people who work in a game store - so you know they’re serious about playing around.

First up, we have my own recommendation; I fell in love with the card game Flip 7! This game lists players of up to 99+, so you can get every single person on the friend list involved. With simple mechanics and quicker gameplay, this push your luck card game will have you and your friends testing just how greedy you can be in a round, trying to add your cards total values together to be the first to 200 points. Every time I’ve brought this to a table to play, everyone always begs for just one more round and that's when I know I’ve got the winning game for me!

Rhi recommends A Gentle Rain - this quiet, meditative game is cooperative, where each player takes turns pulling tiles to add to a lake of blooming water lilies. Your goal is to place matching water lily tiles of every colour to every one placed on the board - a goal which sounds simple, but requires luck, keen observation, and cumulative work! Playing it to a relaxing soundscape of raindrop noises and lofi truly helps to enhance the experience as well.

Jason suggests Harmonies and Sky Team!

Harmonies has you slowly constructing a 3D landscape to try and attract as many animals as you can to live in the lush world you create for them. With unique gameplay and colourful, lush art this game is super charming, and has an excellent solo mode as well, making it a fun addition for any gamer!

Sky Team was a tearaway hit from 2023, where two players team up as co-pilots, cooperating to land your airplane in different airports around the world. But this year has brought with it an exciting new expansion, called Sky Team: Turbulence, introducing 20 brand new scenarios to really ramp up the tension and flicker all the seat belt signs on

Connor wanted to give a shout out to Warhammer: Warcry! This game re-imagines battle skirmishes with only a handful of the models required for a full Age of Sigmar game. What that means is shorter, snappier games, and more chances to reimagine your squad, and try different tactics! We love getting to try different game modes of beloved franchises, and Warcry has been a fun one to have on tables and shelves! (And takes a little less storage space than a full army, too!)

Stephen has been enjoying both Orc Borg and Pirate Borg, citing, “They are everything I love in a pick-up-and-play RPG - light, lethal, and full of style!

And finally, from our local debonair board gaming extraordinaire, Kerry, we have a neat little list that goes as follows:

The Gang, a co-operative poker game that has vibes similar to The Mind and The Crew. We originally played this as it is intended: using the Texas Hold'em rules, but after a fair few games we switched over to Omaha -- another variation of poker which helped to increase the difficulty of the games we were playing.

Castles of Burgundy actually came out in 2011, and while I had played it in the past, it properly captured my heart in 2024. There is a wonderful depth to this game, and so many points to earn which makes it very replayable.

Ticket to Ride Legacy. I love legacy games (I have already played two games of Clank! Legacy 2 this week), and this one is probably the most fun I have ever had while playing one. The whole campaign was completely joyous that it even got my friends, who were not very interested in the Ticket To Ride games, excited to play it each week.

Seers Catalog. This is such a fun little ladder-climbing and hand-shedding game reminiscent of Scout, but the fun in this game is that you never want to play out your last card, though you may be forced to. Every card has its own unique art in this one.

Bomb Busters. Apparently I love a good team-based game where everyone must work together to a shared goal. Bomb Busters feels a little like Trio/Nana but tickles my brain a little more because it has increasingly harder levels to complete.

Honourable mentions: Exit: The Game Advent Calendar: the missing Hollywood Star, Crokinole, Strike, Bus, and That's Not A Hat
